Donald Eugene Wood's Obituary
Retired Police Sergeant Donald “Don” Eugene Wood, age 75, of Tulsa, OK passed away on August 27, 2020. He was born July 19, 1945 in Lyons, KS to Virgil and Betty Wood.
After high school, in 1963, Don joined the Kansas National Guard until 1966. He married his wife of 51 years, Carla, in Hampton, VA. He was a proud United States Air Force Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War.
Don was a 1971-72 graduate of the Tulsa Police Department training academy, and he earned his associate degree in police science in 1974 from Tulsa Community College. In 1976, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Northeastern Oklahoma State University in Tahlequah, OK, studying criminal justice and public education. Don began his law enforcement career with the City of Tulsa Police Department which lasted 31 years, 4 months, and 7 days earning the rank of Sergeant. After retirement he worked for a short time for Tulsa International Airport police, leaving there to join the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office as Captain working at the David L. Moss Criminal Justice Center, retiring in 2012. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Tulsa, OK.
Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and son. He loved fishing, grilling and just being with his family and the people he loved. He was a true mentor and friend to many fellow officers and other members of the law enforcement community. He will be missed deeply by all who knew him.
Don is survived by his daughters Elaine Murphy (Clint) of Bristow, OK, Kimberly Fisher of Wichita, KS and Kristy FIncannon (Jason) of Sand Springs, OK. and companion Barbara Yuebanks of Cromwell, OK
Also survived by his Grandchildren Jenna White, Christopher White, Kristen Wood, Savannah Still, Lindsay Whitehouse, Cole Fincannon, Joshua Fincannon. Great Grandchildren Brock Still, Owen Freeman, Kinadey Still, Jacob Luke Freeman, Miles White and Liam Whitehouse.

Preceded in death by Father Virgil Wood, Mother Betty Wood, wife Carla Wood, great grandchildren triplets Beau, Memphis and Jack White.
Services at 11 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church located at 1419 N 67th E. Ave., Tulsa, OK 74115 followed by a special time of remembrance and the Tulsa Police Departments honors presentation from 1-3 at Floral Haven Funeral Homes family center located at 6500 S. 129th E. Ave., Broken Arrow, OK 74012. Food and beverage will be served at the family center.
