Donivee M. Jett's Obituary
Donivee Marilyn Jett, 85 of Claremore, Oklahoma passed from this life on Sunday, January 10, 2021 in Claremore. She was born May 19, 1935 in Bristow, Oklahoma to her parents, Albert Milton Childress and Retha B. Childress. Donivee and Jack met in high school and became Tulsa Will Roger high school sweethearts. She married the love of her life, John P. (Jack) Jett on August 14, 1954 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and they have shared in over 66 wonderful years together.
Donivee was a participant in beauty pageants. At age 3, she won the Miss Pawhuska title, and competed in the Miss Oklahoma pageant shortly after high school. At age 4, she was cast as an extra in one of the "Our Gang" movie shorts. She was musically talented, participating in concert piano contests. She played Bass violin at Tulsa Will Rogers high school, along with the accordion. She played piano and organ in church all her life. She passed her love of music to her daughter, Marilyn, teaching her how to read music, play piano, and sing in the church choir. She was so accomplished, that she turned down an opportunity to attend the Julliard School to marry Jack and raise a family.
She was very artistic, drawing any pictures free-hand. After her husband Jack owned a grocery store, she would use acrylic paint and paint whole Thanksgiving and Christmas scenes on the store windows. She learned how to Tole paint on wooden spoons and small wooden boxes over the years. She learned how to paint oil paintings and shared her love of art by having her son, Johnny, and daughter, Marilyn, learn how to oil paint scenery paintings also. Her love of painting was re-ignited toward the end of her life, participating in art classes in the Claremore Nursing home.
Donivee is survived by her loving husband, John P. Jett of Claremore, Oklahoma; two children, John M. Jett and his wife Jeanie of Oolahah, Oklahoma and Marilyn Rice and her husband Jim Rice, of Round Rock, Texas; one brother, Skip Childress and his wife Jan of Jenks, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Stephanie Fuller, Christina Masters, Nikki Bavido, Michaela Headings and Colton Jett; five great-grandchildren, Danny Thomas, Cassie Headings, Jesse Headings, Jean Marie Bavido and Michael Bavido and a host of friends and extended family members.
