Donna Marie Hemphill's Obituary
DONNA MARIE WILSON HEMPHILL
DONNA MARIE WILSON was born January 31, 1928, to John and Lena Johnson Wilson in an oilfield south of Garber Oklahoma. They later moved to Edmond, Coyle and Stillwater OK where she attended Oklahoma A&M College. During her school years, she was active in music, playing the piano, and playing the clarinet in the Edmond and Coyle bands.
In May, 1947 she and Albert Hemphill were married and lived in Stillwater before moving to Tulsa in 1952. In the 1950’s Bill, Lloyd and Arlen came into the family. Albert and Donna became active in the childrens’ programs at Wheeling Avenue Christian Church, teaching the kindergarten children there for eleven years. At the time they were both active in the Boy Scouting program, both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. All three of their boys and others in the troop achieved Eagle Scout; Bill also got the God and Country Award.
Donna worked at Memorial High School from 1966 until 1983 when she transferred to what is now Tulsa Technology Center. She retired in 1988 to enjoy her grandchildren and to travel. In 1973 they moved to the Bixby/Broken Arrow area and worshiped in Bixby, then later moved to Yale Avenue Christian Church.
After retirement, Albert and Donna bought an RV and began camping with a chapter of the Good Sam Club and also traveled on their own. They were able to see the lower 48 states and parts of Canada while visiting family and friends and sight seeing. Donna enjoyed working with young people of all ages in the church, school and scouting programs. When she decided to go to work, the school setting was perfect for her and allowed her to be at home with the children when it was needed. God blessed her with a wonderful loving family, many friends and coworkers.
She is preceded in death by her husband Albert Hemphill and son Arlen Hemphill.
She is survived by son Bill Hemphill and wife Ruth of Orlando FL, son Lloyd Hemphill and wife Sherry of Broken Arrow, OK, daughter-in-law Helen Hemphill of Edmond, OK, 6 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
