Doris Lee (Bivins) Curtis, age 93, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She was born in Pawhuska, OK to Raymond and Hattie (Plummer) Bivins on April 14, 1933. Doris was known as “Pill” to family members and childhood friends. Doris was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She graduated valedictorian from Pawhuska High School and attended Oklahoma Baptist University where she graduated with a degree in music education. Doris later attended Northeastern Oklahoma State University and graduated with a master’s degree in education.
Doris was a talented musician and played the piano and organ for several churches. She was a psychometrist and worked with many rural school districts in northwestern Oklahoma. She retired as the Director of the Regional Education Service Center in Alva, Oklahoma. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, participating in the Women of Compassion group that supports the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children, and spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed getting together with her sisters, reminiscing, and having a good laugh.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband V.K. Curtis, Jr., sisters Sue Labadie and Rayma Free, and numerous other family members.
She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Curtis of Bartlesville; son Paul (Kelly) Curtis of Broken Arrow; grandchildren Meghan Walling and Sean Curtis; great-grandchildren Bennett and Micah Walling; sisters Sara Robertson of Pawhuska, Nancy Collins of Denton, Texas, and Janis Dilbeck of Wynona, and brother Ed Bivins of Kingfisher. Aunt Pill also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on June 3, 2026, at 3:00 pm at the Floral Haven Funeral Chapel in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
