Doris Jean Hicks' Obituary
Doris Jean Hicks passed away on March 8, 2014 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born October 27, 1930 in Maud, Oklahoma. Her mother was a widow at age of 22; so she and her brother spent their early childhood with their maternal grandparents, Edward John and Cara Mae (Thurman) Westfahl. Doris always treasured the time with her grandparents and the valuable lessons they taught. She married Harold Hicks on August 24, 1974 in London, England. After a year in London they moved to Tulsa. Harold passed away October 26, 2012. Doris worked for Cherokee Building Materials in Tulsa as a bookkeeper for 19 plus years. Prior to that she worked many years for United States Gypsum Company ;(USG) and its subsidiaries. She was preceded by her spouse Harold, maternal grandparents, mother and step-father of 50 years Dorothy (Westfahl) and George F. Duesbabek Jr; (Dews-babb-eek; Brother Carl as well as two aunts and uncles and cousins. Survivors include her aunt, Edwardene “Eddie” (Westfahl) Bullard and husband John, of Enid, OK. ; sisters-in-law Betty Smith (David) of Baltimore, MD; Katherine Hicks of Sapulpa; brother-in-law, Earl Dean Hicks of Perry; seven cousins and her most special “Chosen Family” Mary Sanford and her daughter Elizabeth as well as Mary’s grandfather Paul Helfrick all of Broken Arrow. Without the constant loving care given by Mary and Paul during the last several years to both Doris and Harold, life would have been difficult and dull (Doris’s words). We must not forget one loving little black dog, Tazzi, who has brought immeasurable joy to Doris. Mary and Doris chose her together from a pet rescue group. She will live with Mary. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to South Brooke Church of Christ.
