Celebration of Doris Jean PayneDoris Jean Payne, 82, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, entered eternal rest, Friday, August 8, 2014.She was born on April 30, 1932 in Clearwater, Kansas where she lived until she later married. Her parents were Robert and Minnie Barnett and she was the 2nd of 4 children. After graduation from Clearwater High School she went on to attend Southwestern State University in Winfield, Kansas where she earned an associates degree in teaching. After graduation, she was a primary school teacher and later worked 15 years for Oral Roberts Evangelistic Association. Doris married William L. “Bill” Payne on May 24, 1953 at her parents home in Clearwater, Kansas. Doris and Bill resided in Belle Plaine, Kansas until 1965 when they moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. They were married 61 years. Doris was an active member of many organizations: • 15 years as a Cub Scout Leader and was awarded the coveted Silver Fawn Award by the Boy Scouts of America • 36 year member of the Eastern Oklahoma Woodcarvers Association where she was twice awarded the carver of the year award • 25 year volunteer at the Tulsa Zoo • 15 year volunteer at Broken Arrow Neighbors • St. Stephens United Methodist Church in Broken Arrow Doris was a friend to everyone and loved all aspects of life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. She loved to travel, camp, fish, make crafts, and wood burn. She earned many wood burning awards while traveling to shows from coast to coast. Above all awards and activities, her greatest love was her husband, kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. Doris is survived by her husband of 61 years, William Loren “Bill” Payne of the home; children, William “Scott” Payne and wife, Carolof Sapulpa, Oklahoma, William “Andrew” Payne of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren, Matt Payne and wife, Kari of McKinney, Texas, Tracey Rossman and husband, Shawn of Verdigris, Oklahoma, Billy Lawhead of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Rachael Lawhead of Owasso, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Anna Grace Payne, Jared Matthew Payne, Kyler William Duke, Corbin Rossman, Jerrica Rossman, Kelsey Smith, Madison Smith, Dylan Smith, and Kinzley Smith, and; sisters, Kathryn Kohls and husband Arthur of Ellsworth, Kansas, and Lois Cain of Yukon, Oklahoma; and brother, John Barnett and wife Ethelyn of Yukon, Oklahoma.Visitation is 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, August 11, 2014, with family receiving friends 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM.A celebration of Doris’ life will be Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at 2:00 PM at The St. Stephens United Methodist Church, 400 W.
