Doris L. Riddle's Obituary
Doris Lanelle Shirley Riddle was born Feb. 13, 1928 in Springtown, TX, the only child of Harold and Vonnie Shirley. She graduated from Springtown High School in 1947, valedictorian of her class, and was granted a scholarship to the University of Texas. But Doris followed her heart instead and married Billy Wayne Riddle in Springtown. They had 3 children: Kaye and twins Don and Jan. The family moved to Tulsa, OK in 1967 when Bill started a new job with Bovaird Supply Company. Doris kept the home fires burning, with an occasional part-time job in bookkeeping/accounting. In 1984, Bill was able to take early retirement, and he and Doris planned to travel and see more of the world. Then Bill was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Doris’ time was spent taking care of him until his death in 1999. Doris met George Riddle at a grief recovery group and they were married March 2, 2002. Doris’ family now included George’s 3 sons: David, Larry, and Ray, and their wives and children. Doris and George meant to spend their golden years in Tulsa, but Doris’ declining health eventually resulted in her living at Inola Health Care Center in Inola, OK in Dec. 2010. George joined her there in Oct. 2011. They spent their time getting to know the staff and other residents, watching movies and TV, reading the newspaper, and visiting with family. Doris Riddle passed away on April 29,2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Vonnie Shirley, and Billy Wayne Riddle. She is survived by George Riddle; Kaye Slepka (and Bill); Don Riddle; Jan Griffith (and Gary); David Riddle (and Jo); Larry Wheeler (and Debbie); Ray Riddle (and Lisa); and 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren..
