Doris J. Shelton's Obituary
Doris J. Shelton, 71, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, October 25, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 28, 2016 at Yale Avenue Christian Church, with burial to follow at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens. She was born on January 3, 1945, in Gallup, New Mexico, the daughter of Joe and Evelyn (Harp) Hampton. She attended school in Tulsa, having graduated from Union High School in 1962. She then furthered her education by earning her Master’s Degree from the University of Tulsa. On June 11, 1966, she married Richard T. Shelton, the love of her life, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Doris taught school for two years at Keystone, then two more years at Sand Springs, prior to starting a family. After some time, Doris began her career in the banking industry, having spent 24 of her 30 years at Bank of Oklahoma. Doris loved to travel. The beach was one of her favorite destinations. She also enjoyed her book club, gardening, and had been the treasurer of her sorority, KKI. Doris was also very active at Yale Avenue Christian Church, where she was a member. She loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband, Richard T. Shelton, son, Scott Alan Shelton, of Owasso, Oklahoma, daughter in law, Katie Shelton, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, grandchildren, Hannah Grace Shelton, and Hudson Nate Shelton, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma, three siblings, Joyce Johnson, and her husband, Fred, of Stanley, New Mexico, David Hampton, and his wife, Diane, of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Elden Hampton, of Rockwall, Texas, and numerous extended family members, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Steven Shelton, and numerous Aunts and Uncles. Memorial donations may be made to the KKI Student Scholarship Fund.
