Doris G. Spain's Obituary
Doris Spain, a devoted homemaker and cherished community member, passed away on April 22, 2025 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 97. Born Doris Davis on October 3, 1927 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, she grew up alongside four siblings under the loving guidance of her parents, Carl and Arlene Davis. In November 1947, Doris married John W. Spain in Omaha, Nebraska, and together they built a strong family foundation, ultimately relocating to Tulsa in 1961 with their four children.
Throughout her life, Doris exemplified kindness and dedication, both in her home and in her community. As a career homemaker, she was renowned for her exceptional skills in home cooking, baking, and sewing—skills that brought comfort and joy to those around her. Her generosity extended well beyond the kitchen; Doris selflessly volunteered for many years at St. Francis Hospital, where she worked in the mailroom delivering letters to patients, and she also dedicated significant time to Meals on Wheels, ensuring that nourishment reached those in need.
Doris’s life was a living testament to the principle she held dear: “I came to serve, not to be served.” This guiding belief defined her humble nature and the countless ways in which she touched the lives of her family, friends, and community. She is survived by three of her children, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom remember her as a steadfast source of love, compassion, and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Doris’s memory to either the Porta Caeli Hospice House at Make an Honor/Memorial Gift at Catholic Charities of Eastern Oklahoma or to Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa. Doris’s legacy of service and faith will continue to inspire all who knew her.
