Dorothy L. Cody's Obituary
Dorothy Lila Smith Cody, our loved and precious mother was taken to her special resting place on November 18, 2010 that her God had chosen for her. Mother was born May 7, 1918 to Ora Davis Smith and Essie Kyles Smith in Bixby, Oklahoma. She was the first born of five children. On October 10, 1939 she married George W. Cody Jr. in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They were blessed with four children and raised them to be respectful, independent and caring. She was a homemaker caring for her children who she always said “were her life”. When her children were teenagers she worked to help supplement the family income. She then continued to work until her 75th year. Dorothy’s faith in God was very important to her, she tithed every Sunday even if she had as little as 10 dollars for the week. She said she was always fine. Mother was blessed with a very strong constitution, she always put the next foot forward and continued on never once complaining. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her sisters Mary Edith and Betty Jo. Dorothy belonged to her neighborhood ladies club which gave her much pleasure and alot of fun. She also enjoyed taking care of her flower beds and her favorite pass time was sewing and making dresses for herself. Mother was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years and her parents; her much loved sister Mary Edith Smith Frew the matriarch of the family and her brother William Eddie Smith. We will love and cherish her memory always, daughters: Lila Herman and her husband Dave, Georgia Wheeler; sons: Richard Cody and his wife Carolyn, Randy Cody; sister: Betty Jo Lemons and, brother: Davis Smith and his wife Lois; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
