Dorothy Rita Szopinski's Obituary
Dorothy Rita Szopinski, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, family member & friend; born Wednesday, June 8, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois to her loving parents, George & Agatha (Chrzanowskh) Wojcik; went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 in Midwest City, Oklahoma with her loving family by her side. Born and raised in Chicago, Dorothy met the love of her life at a very young age; during WWII while serving in the Army Air Corp, he returned home on leave they found one another and after a brief courtship they married and began their life together and raised their family. Later relocating to Tulsa in 1997 to be close to their children and grandchildren following their retirement. In Dorothy’s free time she enjoyed many things such as crocheting especially making baby blankets for the “Broken Arrow Neighbors”, watching the daily Mass on the Catholic network on television and watching the Hallmark channel regularly. What Dorothy truly was passionate about was her family that she loved so dearly. Fond memories will always be cherished of Dorothy especially how she has been a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Denver Broncos for many years. She will be deeply missed by all those who had their lives touched by her. Dorothy is preceded in death by her beloved husband of fifty-five years, Leonard A. Szopinski; her loving parents, George & Agatha Wojcik; her dearly loved siblings, Clara Truty, Estelle Wesley, Frank Ward, Charles Wojcik and Clem Wojcik; her dear sister-in-law, Peg Szopinski and her dear brother-in-law, Al Szopinski. Dorothy is survived by her four loving children, Leonard Szopinski & wife Kathy, Rick Szopinski & wife Barbara, Mary Lynn Kannawin & husband Bill, and Paul Szopinski & wife Melissa; her twelve dearly loved grandchildren; her precious eight great-grandchildren; and numerous other loving family members and friends. A visitation will be held Sunday, October 23, 2016 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM with a Rosary at 6:00PM at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral mass will be held Monday, October 24, 2016 at 10:00AM at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 2200 W Ithica Street; Broken Arrow, Oklahoma 74012. A graveside service will follow the mass at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens at the “Veteran Field of Honor Phase II” at 11:30AM. Services have been entrusted to Floral Haven Funeral Home, Floral Shop, Crematory & Memorial Gardens, 6500 S. 129th E Avenue; Broken Arrow, Oklahoma 74012.
