Dorothy I. Tullis' Obituary
Dorothy Irene Krohm, the first born child and only daughter of Alford and Pearl (née Gallup) Krohm, was born in Kansas City, Missouri on July 28, 1939. Eight years later, Dorothy became a big sister to her brother, Gary Krohm. She was raised by her loving parents in Sugar Creek, Mo. and, as a child, loved visiting her grandparent’s farm in Concordia, Mo.Dorothy valued education greatly. A very studious young lady, Dorothy graduated salutatorian from Van Horn High School in 1957. She was active in many academic clubs, including the Kapponian Literary Society and National Honor Society. Her high school senior peers voted her “most likely to succeed”.After graduating high school, Dorothy attended junior college and soon married Lawrence Miller. Together they transferred to Central Missouri State University where she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Education with a concentration in English. Soon after graduation, Dorothy and her husband welcomed their only child, Sharon. The young family soon relocated to California to further their teaching careers, ultimately settling into the seaside Spanish village, San Clemente. Dorothy taught high school English for seven years, mostly within the Capistrano Unified School District. Although she enjoyed teaching, she eventually pursued a career in technical writing, getting a start in this new field through her brother’s business. She enjoyed a successful career at Burroughs, Unisys, and her favorite, Disney Studios.Unfortunately after 17 years, her marriage ended. She relocated to the Oxnard, California area while pursuing a career at Burroughs and met the love of her life, Dwight Tullis. They eventually married in 1988 and relocated to Malibu, California in the Pointe Dume area above Zuma Beach. Dwight and Dorothy loved life at the beach and their many weekend getaways to Moro Bay, California. After Dwight and Dorothy retired, they relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma, while also maintaining a home at Grand Lake. The pair quickly acclimated to life at the lake, zipping around in their boat and Seadoos, and enjoying the many new friends they made in their new community. They appreciated the friends and family that visited them often at the lake, particularly their children and grandchildren. They always spoiled their guests with good food and lots of fun, and introduced their youngest granddaughters to horse camp!! Dorothy and Dwight also looked forward to their several vacations in Hawaii and many roadtrips around the United States.Dorothy was blessed with several lifelong friends including Lee Thorne (deceased), Jill Sherburne (deceased), Teddy and Clennon Sockeye (deceased), Julie and Skip Bradbury, and Sue and John Hemmann. Dorothy treasured their friendship and looked forward to visiting at each other’s homes. In 2015, Dwight beat cancer and the couple decided to only live in Tulsa.
