Douglas William Murphy's Obituary
Douglas William Murphy, 69, passed away on June 7, 2022, in Tulsa, after struggling with COPD and various ailments for the last several years. He was third born to Joseph and Bernice(Nichols) Murphy, arriving on September 10, 1952, in Amarillo, Texas.
Doug graduated from Tulsa Memorial Senior High School, and then earned a bachelor's degree in Architecture from Oklahoma State University, followed by a master's degree in Architecture from the University of Illinois. After his school years, Doug interned with the architectural firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill in Chicago before choosing to return to Tulsa to practice his profession with the architectural firm Murray, Jones and Murray. During building slumps and economic downturns in the area, Doug expanded his skill set by venturing into space planning, remodeling, property management, and designing, building, and implementing digital 911 systems.
Doug lived most of his life in Tulsa because he loved it and was an avid OSU Cowboy fan. Doug loved and enjoyed his family, friends, and cats, and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
Doug was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his brother David(Sandy), sister Dianne Kanipe(David), nephews Christopher(Kristen), Ken(Kimberly), great-niece Makenna, great-nephew Ian, and brother Daniel.
Thanks to the caregivers at St. John's Medical Center. Special thanks to Barbara McNally and Marvin "Keith" Lehman, Doug's friends and ours, for all they did, by stepping up to fill the void of family at a distance and being there for Doug.
Graveside Service will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Floral Haven Memorial Garden of Everlasting Life.
