Doyal Ray Holladay's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Doyal Ray Holladay
Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel. Let us remember with thanksgiving what God has done through His servant Doyal.
Doyal Ray “Doc” Holladay was given life by his creator and was born on June 10, 1936, the child of Raymond and Lillian Holladay. On February 22, 1957 he received the gift of a beloved companion in his wife, Deanna. Later in 1958 and 1961, Doyal and Deanna were blessed with the gift of children, Charles “Chuck” and Kathy. In the early 1960s, he publicly confessed his faith in Christ, and received the gift of Holy Baptism and became a child of God.
God blessed Doyal’s life with many special people as he served God in his vocations at home, church, work, and community. He was a devoted, loving and giving husband and father. His devotion and love for his bride of nearly 67 years was evident to all around him. Never did a day pass that he did not kiss her and tell her he loved her. He also demonstrated to his family his tireless and constant work-ethic of always providing for his family – a trait he has passed-on to his children. He truly demonstrated for his children an Ephesians 5:25-29 husband. As a father, Doyal always had time for his kids. He devoted so many hours to coaching baseball, softball and basketball, where he also made an impact on the lives of his childrens’ friends. Not only teaching the game but also intangibles such as sportsmanship, always trying your best, persistence, true friendship, looking out for others and doing the “right thing” just to name a few – lessons I hope we all have learned and carried with us into our adulthood. In other words, “training up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it” in accordance with Proverbs 20:6. As a grandfather, Doyal was known for his jokes and humorous antics with the grandkids and later the great-grandkids. They loved, played and laughed with their “PaPa” and have so many wonderful memories. Doyal was also a rampant St. Louis Cardinals fan, enjoyed watching baseball, softball, basketball and football. In his younger days he also enjoyed fishing and occasional camping.
Over the years, Doyal was involved in his church in several capacities until his health declined and the Covid pandemic ensued. In addition to faithfully attending services, he spent many hours working in the churchs’ House of Hope clothing and food pantry ministry.
He spent most of his diligent working life in the paint sales industry where he made several long-time acquaintances and earned his nickname “Doc”. Many people knew him only as “Doc”.
Doyal was preceded in earthly death by parents Raymond and Lillian Holladay and younger sister Janice Sikes.
He is survived by his wife Deanna Holladay; son Charles Holladay and wife Tonya, and daughter Kathy Barranco; grandchildren Autumn Perlingiere and husband Jamie, Megan Willis and husband Kyle, Taylor Barranco and wife Jenna, and Chase Barranco and wife Taylor; great-grandchildren Madi, Raegan, Philomena, Dominic, Bosco, Karter, Blaise, Corinne, Copelyn and Theo; sister Nadine Jenkins and husband James; Brother-in-law Leon Sikes; and many nephews and nieces.
On December 13, 2023, God blessed Doyal with a peaceful and holy death, and took him home to his eternal rest in the arms of Jesus to await the resurrection of the dead.
The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord. We give thanks to God our Father through Jesus Christ, our Lord, for dear Doyal.
