My name is Connie Reese Couch, I am from Athens Ga. I believe I was named after Connie Runyon. My father, Harry Richard Couch was in the Navy or the CC camp with him. They were good friends. My father has passed but my family still live in Athens and saw the Obituary and contacted me.I would love to know more about Mr. Runyon. I am proud to say I am one of the hundreds of "grandkids" of "Grandpa" Earl Runyon. Though we were not biologically his kids he accepted us as if we were. My real grandpa, "Lefty" died when I was 2 so I never really knew him. Earl came along and swept my Grandma off her feet and the rest was history. I hate to admit it but I kind of resented him in the beginning (we'd always had Grandma to ourselves and done stuff with "just the girls"). But over time Earl won me over with his kindness. He was always so good to my Grandma and our whole family. He accepted her 12 kids and hundreds of grandkids as his own. Even though he outlived her by 17 years he continued to be a huge part of our family. He was a godly man, who lived his 95 years in a Christ-like way. We were lucky to have him in our lives.We'll miss you Earl, but we will see you again! Love, Leslie
Grandpa Earl was a goodam with a very kind heart. I will always remember his smile. The few times we got to spend with Earl & Grandma Jean were some of my favorite memories.
Earl, Was a wonderful kind man, I worked with Earl at Southwestern Bell in the early 1950's. We learned of his marriage too Mrs. Honn, thru are friendship with Dick and Nancy Honn. I know the love of the Honn Family brought much happiness to Earl. Barbara (Jack) Warren
Our Grandpa Earl had one of the largest families ever! With TWELVE loving stepchildren, all of their spouses, a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, this wonderful man was loved by many. He was the only Honn-Runyon Grandpa known by the majority of us since he married Grandma Honn-Runyon over 40 years ago! Grandpa Earl, I want to echo and agree with all the wonderful things my cousins, uncles, and aunts have stated. You were always loving, patient, and kind to every one of your family members – even when we all "took over" yours and Grandma's house every Christmas and on other momentous events! Earl was one of the best Christian men I have ever known. He had such a love of God's word, and we had many talks about the Bible. His faith was apparent in the way he lived.He was the only Grandpa my girls ever knew, and they loved him for his kind, gentle ways. When they were young, Earl would deliver Christmas to each Honn household in town, bringing happiness to many.His home was always open to anyone who needed a place to stay, during special occasions for the family. Sometimes Earl visited with those sitting in the living room, watched one of the TV preachers that he enjoyed, or occasionally join us at the kitchen table for board games.They don't make 'em like that anymore! He was loved and will be remembered and missed by all of us that knew him.
Uncle Earl was a wonderful Christian man. He always had a smile on his face and I have great memories of him. I loved him very much.
My Grandpa Earl will be missed by a lot of people. He was a kind and generous man. He loved everyone no matter what. Was a Southern Baptist with a big accepting heart. When I asked one time about what he thought about discrimination against people based on race or sexual orientation. He said it was stupid. He believed God made each and every person exactly how they were supposed to be and who are we to question that? At that time he was probably in his late 80's and his answer impressed me a lot. Why not be loving and accepting? Not judgemental? No one person is any better than the next. What defines a person is how they choose to live life and how they handle what life throws at them. I really miss having breakfast with him and Grandma and our lively conversations. He was never afraid to voice his opinion even when Grandma tried to shut him down… lol Often he would say his piece and then run off to the garage (with a smile and a wink) and hide. My one regret is not getting to see him more often these last few years. We get so busy with life we let these things get away from us and then the opportunity to tell some one you love them, or simply have coffee and scrambled eggs with them one last time is gone. I'll miss you Grandpa. You were a wise and wonderful person and somehow you put up with all of us.
Earl, I cant begin to share the multitude of words it would take to let you know how much you have meant to me the last 30 years. Our many dinners with you and mom and our fun years at Anthonys. You were a wonderful stepfather and for someone with NO children, to love and care and be friends with 12 is just amazing–I know you are where you want to be now, but know that we all loved you more than you will ever know.. and I will truely miss you each and every day–Rick and Pam
