Ed Blotevogel's Obituary
In remembrance of Edgar "Ed" W. Blotevogel who at 97 years of age passed away while surrounded by his grandchildren and daughter in-law on the evening of December 30th in Broken Arrow.
Ed was born on May 11th, 1926, to George and Bertha Blotevogel, and was raised in Worden, Illinois, alongside his older brother Victor and his younger brother Vernon. He grew up a member of the local Lutheran church, and maintained active church membership throughout his life, most recently at Eastland Baptist Church in Tulsa. He had a lifelong love of sports, and played many in his younger years, especially basketball, which he even continued to play for years following retirement. He also had a love for music, and while a high school student in Staunton, he played clarinet in the marching band. After his graduation, and amid the turmoil of the second world war, he enlisted in the United States Army and was eventually deployed to the Philippines, where he would go on to earn the rank of Staff Sergeant. After an honorable discharge from the Army, Ed attended Kansas City Television & Radio Repair School where he learned his trade as an audio engineer. A position at KRMG would eventually lead him to relocate to Tulsa, OK, and during his time in radio he would produce a wide variety of programming from Sunday Gospel shows to on-site sportcasts. He later joined the staff of Oral Roberts Evangelistic Association as a sound engineer for a thirty-year career, at one point traveling all across the country to facilitate remote broadcasts.
In August 1965 he married his soulmate, Donna Maxwell and together would continue to raise his two sons Eric and Terry. All who know them, their union was esteemed and praised as an example for others.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Bertha, his brothers Victor and Vernon, and his son Eric. He is survived by his wife Donna and son, Terry (Pam), as well as grandchildren Brandi Wager (Sam), Phillip Blotevogel (Corianne), Cory Blotevogel (Bobbie), Christopher Blotevogel (Robin), Charlie Blotevogel, and Alicia Craig (Spencer), a daughter in-law Nancy Blotevogel, as well as a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Ed will be remembered for his diligent work ethic, his methodical and fastidious attention to detail, his wit and humor, his faithfulness and loyalty, his generosity, his willingness to give even the smallest problems the most thorough consideration, and his spirit of consistent humility and gratitude. He was earnestly loved, deeply respected, sincerely cherished, and he will be dearly missed.
