Edgebert Rosco Luna Jr.'s Obituary
Edgebert (Ed) Rosco Luna, Jr passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, 15 October 2022 at Cedar Ridge Senior Living facility where he had enjoyed life after being predeceased by his loving wife, Wanda, in December of 2021 and his cherished parents, Edgebert Rosco and (Emma) Eugenia Luna, who both died in 2005. He will be lovingly remembered by his children: son- Robert (Bob) Zach Luna (with Denise McAveney) of Charlotte, NC, and daughter- Cheryl Anne Luna (Thomas) Robinson of Mandeville, LA, Wanda’s daughters- Pam (John) White of Houston, TX, Mary (David) Chesher of OKC, and Suzie (Tracy) Phillips of Tulsa, OK. Ed was so proud of his beloved grandchildren: Matthew Willis (Meghan) Robinson, Rachel Katherine Robinson (Nathan) Mosley, Marshall White, Claire Chesher, and Samantha Phillips. He never met his great-grandsons, Wyatt Clayton Mosley and William Archer Mosley, but getting photos often of them in the mail delighted him! Ed grew up with the ethic of working hard and playing hard and showing compassion all along the way. He enjoyed helping others as he saw a need, especially through church and service activities. At will Rogers High School (class of 1950) and The University of Tulsa (Class of 1954), he played basketball on those school teams and was active in his church youth group. He also enjoyed coaching Little League baseball and refereeing college basketball games, and Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity was fun 🤩 in college. He worked a daily newspaper route on his bicycle from the age of 7, where he learned the value of saving and money management, which helped him excel in his chosen field of Accounting and Finance. He was in ROTC through high school and college and earned his the United States Air Force commission in 1954. With his attention to detail, he thrived in the USAF, where our family had many adventures traveling and living across the US (from HI and Alaska to NY and points in between) and around the Far East for both business and family trips when he was stationed in the Philippines, where the guys golfed and the girls haggled for treasures from the locals wherever we went. While there, he had the honor of standing by the red carpet when the returning POWs first stopped for medical treatment after their release from the North Vietnam prison camps, and he enjoyed being involved with them in their recovery, even helping one special Captain who was named on his own POW bracelet with a few special personal projects once he returned to the states, which was a blessing to him. While living in the Philippines, he developed a love for golf, which was shared by his dad and his son, Bob, for decades whenever they got together. When he retired from the USAF, he enjoyed being a Business Manager in the oil industry for MGF OIL and then Kaiser-Francis during the oil boom and then bust, which then brought him home to Tulsa, where he loved serving as DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS AND SUPPORT SERVICES for his lifelong family church of FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF TULSA, OK. Once he decided to officially retire for good, he put his boundless energy into helping supervise the build of their dream home, and then used that expertise to help oversee the building of DAY SPRING VILLA (now known as THE SPRING in Tulsa, OK), a home for women and their children who are homeless due to serious crisis situations (now known as THE SPRING of Tulsa, OK). He then enjoyed many years helping Wanda design and tending to his new garden at home while helping with household chores. He also enjoyed bowling on Senior Leagues with his folks and playing penny-poker weekly with his best buddies from high school! He also helped plan his high school reunions while enjoying participating in comic relief for the same group at those reunions! He helped his parents plan trips for our then 4-generation “Luna Family Golf Vacations” in several places, where the Luna men golfed while the women enjoyed checking out a variety of things to do in each area with the kids. He also helped plan WRHS CLASS trips with the many close friends from high school who still loved being together! He will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind.
Visitation will be this Thursday night, 10/20/2022 from 5-7 pm and the Funeral will be on Friday morning, 10/21/2022 from 10 am-12 pm, both at Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow, OK.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to THE SPRING, LLC of Tulsa,https://thespringok.org/ or EVERGREEN HOSPICE in Tulsa, OK (http://www.evergreenhospice.net/ who walked our family through his end-of-life care) as a memorial would be much appreciated.
