Edna May Pettifer's Obituary
Edna May Pettifer was born in London¸ England to parents Robert and Eleanor Trinder on October 31, 1930. She was their second born of four children. Edna passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2016. She is survived by her brother Derek Trinder and his wife Pauline. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Trinder, and her sister, Joan Smith, whom she was very close to throughout their lives. World War II affected her life in that her family lived through the German bombing of London. Nearly every night the peace was disturbed by the sound of air raid sirens and German bombers attacking London. One morning they found a German fighter airplane that had crashed in the street near their house. Later in the war, the children and their mother left London to stay in a safer place in the English countryside at an Uncle’s farm. After the war, Edna met Bevis Pettifer. Bevis was a veteran of the British Navy who had served for the entire length of the war. They married in September 1949 and lived in London. Their first child, Stephen, was born in March 1951. In 1956, the family immigrated to the United States. They traveled by ship from England to New York City, and then boarded a train to Tulsa, Oklahoma. In January 1958 their second child, Teresa, was born. In 1962, Edna, Bevis, and Stephen became naturalized American citizens. Edna worked for many years at Public Service Company (now AEP) in various accounting capacities. Edna was a member of St Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in Tulsa. She enjoyed serving as a member of the Altar Guild including a term as President. Edna lost the love of her life when Bevis passed away in 1996. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Family meant everything to her. Survivors include son Stephen Pettifer and wife Katherine, daughter Teresa Crane and husband Jerry Crane. Edna had five grandchildren, John Pettifer and wife Abby, Derek Pettifer, Amy Smith and husband Jason Smith, Kimberly Persall-Chitachni, and Emily Capps and husband Dustin Capps. She is survived by three great-grandchildren, Jace Smith, Avery Smith and Henry Pettifer. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2nd, at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in Tulsa. The family requests donations be made to St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church or the American Cancer Society.
