I just learned of Eddie's passing. We were roommates at one time in the 70s and ran around for a few years with other friends. I knew Eddie and Paula before they married. I always liked Eddie and know he is missed. I'll say a prayer for all the family.
Eddie and I had been friends since 1949 when I started first grade at Longfellow when we both lived on South 30th, attended Boston Avenue Baptist Church and walked or rode our bikes all over the westside of Muskogee. When I attended my 50th class reunion in 2011, we drove all over past our old haunts in Muskogee and laughed until our sides hurt after eating Chet's hot dogs. We talked on the phone frequently. Eddie loved his family so much and was proud of all of them.
I remember one year the first Alumni Baseball game at Northeastern State University, we all had a great time, in attendance Ken Hays,Enos Semore ,Henry Bias and many more.After the ballgame several of us went to our hotel where Eddie,John Leafer and myself quizzed Enos Semore for hours talking baseball. I was sad to hear about Eddies passing and only found out his passing yesterday from Coacj Jack Dobbins…Rest in peace Shafer,Lonnie Hale
I worked with Eddie for seven years as an employee of Taylor of Oklahoma. We had a lot of laughs together as well as a few disagreements…lol….He was a great human with a fantastic sense of humor. Rest in peace and go with God! OU certainly lost one of its biggest fans! You will be missed Eddie!Rhonda Skaggs

I just learned about Eddie's death and am so sorry to hear this news. He was a good friend of John Leafer, my husband, and came to visit us often while John was so ill with cancer. Eddie Shafer was a dear friend of mine for many many years. We graduated from Muskogee Central High School in the same class of 1960 but we became close friends many years later in the 1970s and beyond until now. I will really miss him. We had a lot of good times together over the years. Eddie was so appropriately honored as a member of the Northeastern Hall of Fame just last summer and that was richly deserved. I attended a "mini" high school class reunion in Muskogee in the summer of 2012. The conversation three others and I shared with Eddie that evening was one of the highlights of that weekend for me. His "motor scooter," of course, was a memory shared as was his baseball history. I didn't know Eddie until our sophomore year in high school, but soon learned that his mother and my mother were nursing school classmates.I was reminded during our brief visit of not only Eddie's sense of humor but of his character. He spoke with pride of you, Paula and of his children and their lives. Eddie will truly be missed. We had a lot of good times together through the years. Most recently a lot of good phone conversations. We always had some good discussions about the OU football team, he was an avid fan and I will miss those discussions. Rest in peace Eddie
