I will miss talking with Gene. He was always kind. I hope that in some small way that I helped him to navigate and to ease his burden with the insurance side of his illness. He always brighten my day. I felt a connection with him from the first time we spoke.
God, please be with Gene’s family and uplift them when they are down. I know they will miss him too.

In 1984 full of my ‘arrogant self’… in total rebellion since High School against ‘all authority’ and with my back turned on The Lord, and a ‘superstar in professional wrestling’….I met Gene in conjunction with a business transaction with my CPA, Jim Elliott, and Gene in one of our meetings, in his quiet, yet so powerful way in The Lord, asked me ‘why I was so against religion’… and I went on a 1o minute tirade about the hypocrisy of the church, about its always about the money, the ‘holier-than-thou attitudes of so many’… or even the ‘sleazy ones in church office or prominence’ taking sexual advantage of those weaker… and he just nodded his head and agreed. Then, he said, “Could I ask you just one more question?” I said, “Just one and hurry up, I’ve got to go.”
He then said, “What has Jesus Christ ever done to hurt you?!”
It was like this quite, little man had ‘slapped my face’ with a power that shook me to my toes! I left that meeting, driving home in my new Porche 928 speeding way over the limit, tears started flowing….and I went and bought a new Bible, which I had not read since high school days…and The Word, knocked me to my knees… and Gene was there to mentor me and meet with me and discuss and even gently argue with me… he also baptized my children.
I love Gene Griffin! I loved discussing Scripture with him…
God used Gene to ‘impact my life’… Have I remained faithful to The Lord since… YES in my faith in Christ… NO in too many times in my life I’ve knowingly sinned against Him…but one thing is for sure… I have never again ‘turned my back on The Lord’… I just ‘accept my own weaknesses’ and ‘trust in God’s merciful grace to me in His Son!’
Gene never complained to me about his brain cancer…He said he was tired… but never complained… What a servant of The Lord… As my tears flow now the loss… mourning, I asked my wife, Charlotte, who has also met him, ‘why does The Lord take such wonderful lamps of Christ’s light and love from us’…and from this world which so needs God’s vessels. And she said, “We don’t know… but imagine His reward in Heaven’s Rest.” Thank you Almighty Father for your servant, Gene, and please comfort his family and loved ones… Thank you Jesus, and I know he is with you now! Thank you for touching my heart for You through him! Amen!
