Eileen Carroll Engleson-Stearns' Obituary
In Loving Memory of Eileen Carroll Engleson-Stearns
On the evening of November 3, 2023, Eileen Carroll Engleson-Stearns passed away peacefully in her home. She had her husband Fred by her side and was also surrounded by loving friends and family. Eileen was born on October 11, 1947 to Eleanor Engleson and Ernie Engleson of Detroit, Michigan. As a young adult, Eileen moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where she worked as an office administrator while pursuing her dream of becoming an educator.
Eileen met and fell in love with Fred Stearns whom she married on June 5, 1982. They moved to Arlington, Texas where she continued her studies and finished her Master’s Degree at Texas Women’s College in Denton, TX. Eileen began teaching Special Education and continued teaching for over 25 years. She was affectionately known as "Mrs. E" to her students.
Eileen and Fred were members of St. Matthews United Methodist Church where they both sang in the choir. After several years in Arlington, they moved back to Tulsa where Eileen continued to teach. After her retirement, Eileen joined the first Linnaeus Garden class for volunteers. She continued to help and tutor students. Along with photography, reading, and flowers, Eileen had a great passion for animals. She and Fred delivered pet food to clients of Meals on Wheels for over twelve years.
Eileen always enjoyed her weekly lunches with other retired teachers, her daily front porch coffees with neighbors, and monthly meetings with her book club and The Birthday Girls. She and Fred often attended Town Hall lectures, loved dinners as well as attending plays with friends. Eileen enjoyed traveling and took many trips to Ireland, Greece, Canada, multiple places throughout Europe as well as the United States. Eileen touched the lives of many with her kindness and warmth. She will be forever missed by those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Eileen leaves behind her beloved husband Fred Stearns, her sister Cheri, (husband Richard Staats) of Jerome, Idaho as well as her niece and nephew Leanne Roque of Twin Falls, Idaho and Ernest Staats of Calhoun, Georgia.
