Elayne Barnes' Obituary
Marcia Elayne Barnes was born May 4th, 1949, and was called to Heaven December 10th, 2022, at the age of 73.
Elayne was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Robert L. Hashagen and Edna Van Taylor Hashagen. They lived in Sapulpa, OK until Elayne was three years old. The family moved to Tulsa, OK where her father owned a wholesale meat company H&R Meat Co.
Elayne was educated in Tulsa Public Schools where she excelled in every subject including music, which led her to sing as the leading role of many musical productions in high school. She was a member of the National Honor Society at Memorial High School class of 1967.
Elayne followed a friend to the University of Arkansas where she attended for two years. She returned home to care for her mother and continued her education at the University of Tulsa.
Elayne started her career as an Astute Administrative Assistant for the City of Tulsa County Library. She had the opportunity to move to Houston and worked in the oil industry for many years. After moving back to Tulsa, she secured a position as a part time clerk at a new department store opening in the city called Marshall’s. Elayne was promoted to the Store Manager position, where she won numerous awards regionally and nationally for her performance. After a 30-year career in retail management; Elayne was able to retire.
She is predeceased in death by her father Robert Hashagen, mother Edna Hashagen, stepmother Virginia Hashagen, sister Karen Stromberg, nephew Austin Waddle and brother-in-law Chuck Blackwell. Elayne is survived by her husband Jim of the home. Sisters: Romayne Blackwell of Tulsa, Mindy Herndon (Frank), Bobbi Tomlin (Mark), Robyn Waddle (Terry) and, brother Robert all of Oklahoma City, mother-in-law Alma Barnes of Tulsa along with numerous nieces, nephews and greats who all loved their Aunt Elayne.
Elayne was a mentor to many women that were starting over in life. We thank you for the support during these last days and the love you showed towards her.
