In Loving Memory of Eldon Van Ness September 4, 1935 – May 29, 2025 Age 89 Eldon Van Ness, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and outdoorsman, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, at the age of 89. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, two brothers, his children Elmer Ray, Roger, and Margaret Penfield, and his great-grandson Hunter Penfield. He is survived by his loving wife, Margarette Van Ness; sons Jerry, Elbert, and Gary Van Ness; and stepchildren Stan Smith, Debby Shipman, Janice Breeding, Randy Smith, and Rhonda Stilwell. He leaves behind a proud legacy of 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Eldon worked for over 30 years at American Airlines, where he was respected for his dedication and strong work ethic. Outside of work, he had a deep love for the outdoors. He spent countless days hunting, fishing, and simply enjoying nature. He was also a skilled woodworker and knife maker—crafting beautiful, practical pieces that often ended up in the hands of family and friends. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, steady presence, and heartfelt stories. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the memories he helped create.
