Elizabeth Carolyn Duncan's Obituary
Elizabeth Carolyn Gahn Lancaster Duncan (known to her friends as Betty or Liz) passed away September 29, 2014 in Tulsa, Oklahoma after a brief illness. Her gentle passing ended a life that few would have imagined when she was born November 4, 1923 in Alhambra, California to Margaret Lautz and Larry Gahn.She married G.G. Lancaster (a Marine about to go to war) in Rockville, Maryland on July 16, 1943. From that marriage three children were born: Gordon Gus II (who died in infancy), Susan Elizabeth, and Laurence Howell. This marriage ended in divorce July 29, 1971. Her second marriage on July 29, 1979 was to Troy Lee Duncan who preceded her in death.Betty worked for the Marine Corps during WWII and sold Luzier cosmetics during the Korean War. Later she was known as an accomplished secretary working for lawyers, school districts, and finally the FDIC from which she retired. During retirement she was elected to the Palmer, Texas City Council.Liz was an artist at heart bringing a sense of style to everything she did. In her 90th year she took art classes producing both water colors and ceramics. She was an avid reader her entire life still making excellent book recommendations in her final days. She had many interests including bridge, fishing, and following her family on Facebook. She was completely engaged in the world and lived her 90 plus years to the fullest.Her wishes were to be cremated, and her ashes will be scattered at a later time in a private service. Her headstone will be placed in Wolfe City, Texas next to her husband Troy.She is survived by her son and daughter, four grandchildren (Pastor Christopher Lake, Dr. Sarah Lake Wallace, Dr. Amanda Lancaster Goodwin, and Dr. Emily Lancaster Boldrin), and six great grandchildren. She will be missed by son-in-law Gene Lake and daughter-in-law Thea Lancaster.Private Family Service
