Elizabeth "Betty" Williams' Obituary
Elizabeth (Betty) Carmany Williams died Monday, May 18, 2009, at the age of 85. Born November 15, 1923, to Harry and Myrtle Carmany in Woodbury, New Jersey, she graduated from Olean High School (Olean, New York) in 1941. She then went on to graduate from Albany State Teachers College (Albany, New York) in 1945 where she earned a B.S. in Business, then taught high school Business in Allegany, New York, for one year. Betty then moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked at the National Labor Relations Board and met her husband-to-be, Julian E. Williams. The two were married on June 11, 1949. In January of 1958, the two moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, with their young son, Jim, where she lived until her death. She worked 17 years as a sales associate for Woolf Brothers clothing store and was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Betty’s was a life filled with a strong faith in Jesus Christ, a faith she often shared with her family and others. Her church and family were the most important parts of her life, and she always put the needs of others before her own. For many years she volunteered for her church as well as delivered meals for Meals on Wheels. A faithful friend, Betty kept in touch with high school and college friends throughout her adult life. She was also a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, greatly loved and respected by all. She was always thankful for the fine upbringing her parents provided as well as the close relationships shared within the family. After a private burial, a memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Thursday, May 21, 2009, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Pastor Leonard Busch officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 8730 E. Skelly Dr., Tulsa, Oklahoma 74129. Floral Haven Funeral Home is directing.Survived By: Preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, she is survived by her sons James Jim Ladner Williams (wife Elizabeth Betsy), Stephen Steve Paul Williams (wife Aurora); grandsons Benjamin James Williams, Christopher Andrew Drew Williams, and Cameron Blake Walker, all of Tulsa.
