I first had him as a math teacher at Gilcrease jr. high in Tulsa this would have been around 1972, then in 1976 thru 1978 he taught me auto mechanics at Mclain high school. and after I graduated, he helped me get into trade school a couple of times. we lost touch with each other about 2010. I still think of him often.

Hi God! Please meet Mr. Elmer Mabry, just watch out for his right cross if you get your nose a little too close. Oh, and whatever you do do not underestimate his strength!! He is as strong as an ox, he’ll out pull you and then set you up for one of his one two combination punches!! One day Elmer wore me out so much I had to take the next 2 days off from training!!
On a slightly more serious note, I miss you Elmer! Thank you for bringing joy into my life (and yes your corny jokes helped make the whole morning fun). And thank you for allowing me the privilege to be your exercise coach and trainer over the past year. You left an indelible mark on my heart and showed me that training is so much more than simply exercise, it’s about the human spirit and keeping on right up to the end. You did that and so much more, thank you Elmer I will miss you always!! Now, keep working on that footwork as I’ll be back to train you again in another 40-50 years🤗! While searching the Floral Haven website, I was saddened to see that Mr Mabry had passed. I met Mr Mabry in 1978 when I started working at McLain High School in the Library/Media Center. He was the Auto Mechanics instructor there.
Mr Mabry was a God-fearing man who was kind, generous and had a heart of gold. He came to my rescue a few times when I had car trouble and often gave me advice and suggestions when dealing with my car situation.
I left the school system and went to work for DHS full time in 1988. I still kept in touch with Mr Mabry and would call him every year on his birthday until about 3 years ago when the number was no longer available.
My condolences to the family and my thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.
May the fond memories you hold dear bring a smile to your face and lighten your heart in the days, weeks, months and years ahead.

Elmer, I feel blessed to know your sister, Glo. She is my best friend and always speaks so highly of you. I know she loved you more than she could ever speak. I wish I had met you but look at you now; meeting your loved ones gone before you and meeting our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. What more can we hope for? I already miss you sweet Brother. It was my privilege to care for you this past year and a half. I jumped up this morning thinking I was going to UV to see you only to be jolted into the reality that you are gone---gone to your Heavenly home and knowing that gives me so much peace. I am relieved to know that you are up there now healed, walking and even have your fingers back. You had some hard knocks thrown at you just like Mom did, but you kept the faith, finished the course with tenacity, a positive attitude, never complaining for what was handed you, and a strong will. Just as the song says that you sang so many times as a young person---Job's God Is True---"Though God slay me, yet I'll trust Him." I'm so happy knowing you are up in Heaven with all our family and friends. I know they were all glad to see you. I love, love, love you Brother, my father-like being, my protector as a child, my steadfast praying example. Thank for all you gave to me....I'm so blessed to have had you as my Brother.
