Emily "Sue" Shay's Obituary
Emily “Sue” Shay passed away at the age of 70 on October 12, 2020 at Cancer Treatment Center of America surrounded by her family. She was born March 6, 1950 in Tulsa to Forest and Betty Wright. She grew up in Tulsa and graduated from Tulsa Central High School. She worked a number of years and retired from Met Life Insurance Co. She was a christian of strong faith and a longtime member of Church on the Move.
She and her husband, Michael D. Shay were married 33+ years and lived near their family in Inola, OK. In addition to being married to the love of her life, she valued and enjoyed time with her daughter and son-in-law Tammy Sue Giles (Clark); and her grandchildren, John Alexander Giles ( Amy) and Emily Sue Giles. She was called “Gagoo” or the shorter version “Gag” by her grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, Jonathan 7yrs, Kinley 3 yrs, and Josie 1yr. Her family and her poodle named “Baby” were the center of her life. She enjoyed crocheting and made beautiful afghans for her family. She was a great cook and an exceptional baker; making special birthday cakes for her grandchildren throughout their childhood. She often made foods and recipes passed down by her Mother that had become tradition for family holidays and gatherings.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Shirley Ann Wright. In addition to her loving husband, her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren; she is survived by her step-son James Shay, grandson Dawson Shay both of Cushing, OK ; her sister, Mary Dennis of Tulsa; her sister-in-law Vicky Walls of Georgia, as well as, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens- Garden of Prophets.
