Emmit Ray Shampnoi's Obituary
Emmit Ray Shampnoi, 79, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
Emmit was born on October 8, 1946, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he spent his life surrounded by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Teresa Shampnoi; his parents, Doug and Lucille; and a cherished grandson, Jordan.
Emmit is survived by his three daughters: Lisa Teague and her husband, Michael, of Claremore, Oklahoma; Stephanie Shampnoi of Owasso, Oklahoma; and Misty Wilder and her husband, Mike, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, six step grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild on the way, and a brother-in-law H.C Miller of Fairland, Oklahoma, all of whom he loved deeply.
Emmit dedicated many years of his life to hard work. He began his career at Safeway as a forklift driver until its closure. He later went to work at Hilti, where he started in the maintenance department and eventually worked his way up to become a head grinder. He remained there until the facility shut down and moved overseas. He then went on to work at Auto Crane, where he painted truck beds for work vehicles before retiring. In addition, Emmit operated a side upholstery business, showcasing his skill and craftsmanship.
Emmit was known for his sense of humor and loved playing pranks and jokes on everyone, especially with his coworkers. He had a deep love for his family and was a devoted father who coached his daughters in soccer and softball, always present, supportive, and proud of each of them.
In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time on his pontoon boat, cruising Grand Lake. Some of his greatest joy came from being with his grandchildren—teasing them, playing hide-and-seek, scaring them, and always making them laugh. He was known for his playfulness and always asking the grandkids, “Who’s number one?” and proudly answering, “Papa is,” along with his favorite phrase, “Gotcha last.”
