Erma Louise Barton's Obituary
Erma Louis Barton, 85, Tulsa, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 1, 2016. Born in Tulsa on October 21, 1930 to loving parents Essie Lee Camerer and Harvey Kennedy Camerer, she became the newest addition to the Camerer family, with her big brother Mack Kellan and older sister Betty Jean and then in 1934, her baby sister, Zella Ann was born.In 1950, she married the love of her life, William “Bill” Monroe Barton. The births of children Billie Louise and Patricia Ann followed two and three years later. After a few years, Bill and Erma sold their new tract home and bought a big house on the outskirts of Tulsa, where every holiday all the family gathered to enjoy turkey dinners and summer cookouts. There were usually baseball and football games going on in the front yard, with Erma hitting home runs and making touchdowns for the winning teams. She enjoyed country music and listening to Bill play guitar and many Friday and Saturday evenings, country favorites could be heard late into the night when Bill and his friends got together to practice and learn a few new songs. As the girls grew up and got married, the family began to grow as Bill and Erma welcomed Billie’s husband, Tom Roane, and Patty’s husband Scott Standeford, to the family, along with grandchildren Sara Louann, Jessi Kelin and Justin Neill.Following Bill’s passing in 1989, Erma sold the big house and moved into town, to be nearer to family. She loved the Oklahoma Sooners and proudly displayed the Sooner flag every Game Day and colorfully “called” in the plays from her living room when she disagreed with the coach. She enjoyed listening to Gospel music on Sunday mornings while working her puzzles, watching the Dallas Cowboys play on television, reading her favorite books, feeding the ducks and gathering stray golf balls at Mohawk Park, having her weekly favorite Lot-A-Burger, finding a bargain at the thrift stores, visiting family in Missouri and clipping poetry to put in her “poetry book”.Many of Erma’s greatest joys in life came in 2007, when her first great grandchild, Ella Rose Fillmore, was born, followed in 2011 by Daxton Paul Moreno. In 2013, Gabriel Wallace Stevens joined the family, and Lillie Kelin Moreno was born last year in 2015. She loved her “adventures” with Ella, cheering Gabe on in football, working puzzles with Daxton and sneaking a piece of candy to Lillie when she thought no one was looking.Erma was a beautiful, strong woman who worked hard and kept her commitments, who laughed often, who loved and was loved much and who lived life to the fullest, surrounded by family and friends. She will be thought of often and especially in the Fall of the year when the Sooner flags begin to fly and “Boomer Sooner “can be heard across the state.
