Esther May Thorington's Obituary
Esther May Thorington, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went to be with the Lord on March 10, 2016. She was born the youngest of eight children to James and Grace Wilson of Hutchinson, Kansas on May 22, 1926. Esther graduated from Hutchinson High School and was employed by Southwestern Bell. In 1949 she married Lloyd Thorington of Hutchinson, KS. Lloyd and Esther were married for 56 years. Esther was a very loving wife and mother and she set a wonderful example of lifelong commitment to family. During their marriage Mr. Thorington worked as an electrician. Lloyd worked at hydroelectric plants in remote areas of Colorado, Wyoming and Utah. The family appreciated the beauty of living in the Rocky Mountains and enjoyed hiking, picnicking, camping and fishing. In 1964 the family relocated to Lawrence, Kansas. After the children were grown Lloyd and Esther moved to Topeka, KS. Esther retired with AT&T as a telephone operator. Esther’s many interest and skills kept her busy in church and civic life. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and played the church organ. Esther served as the president for the Topeka chapter of “Women’s Aglow”. Esther enjoyed being supportive and even took up oil painting in her later years. She loved to read and play competitive games. Esther was a master at scrabble. Her great loves were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of whom she was so proud. Esther loved to display the pictures of all her children and grandchildren on her living room wall. Esther preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd. She is survived by her children, Dr. Ronald Thorington (Susan) of Buffalo, NY, Rev. Donald Thorington (Audrey) of Springfield, Ill, Rhona Davis (Dave) of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren Paul Thorington, Ron Thorington (Josette), Carrie Thorington, Kelli Wilcockson (Jim), Kevin Thorington, Josh Davis (Magda), Todd Davis, Robin Splawn (Travis); great-grandchildren, Mya, Aaron, Zofia and Heidi. The funeral service will be held at the Chapel of Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka, KS. Esther request that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Pathways Adult Learning Center, Kirk of the Hills Church of Tulsa, OK 4102 E. 61st St., Tulsa, OK 74136
