Etta Mildean "Mickey" Morrison's Obituary
Etta Mildean "Mickey" Morrison, a cherished member of the Tulsa community, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 4, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 96. She was born on April 11, 1927, in Centerville, Arkansas, to her loving parents, Samuel Ervin Birdsong and Louiza Hurst Birdsong.
Mickey was united in marriage to Rueben Lee Morrison, and they shared 65 wonderful years together until his passing in 2012. Throughout her life, she brought joy to those around her with her warm smile and loving nature. Mickey's passion for dance was evident to all who knew her, and she gracefully twirled through life with the rhythm of her heart.
A woman of remarkable talent, Mickey was a skilled seamstress, crafting beautiful wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, drapes, and more. Later in life, she turned to knitting, spending years mastering the art until her vision began to fade. Her expertise in the kitchen was renowned, and she delighted friends and family with her delectable cream pies.
Beyond her creative pursuits, Mickey had a green thumb and found joy in gardening, planting wherever she found an open spot. Her dedication and hard work were evident throughout her career. For over 30 years, she served as an executive assistant for Meadow Gold, a prominent dairy company, and later spent another 20 years as an office manager for Murphy Controls. Even at the age of 60, she embraced the opportunity to learn and adapt, traveling to San Francisco to master a new computer inventory system.
Mickey leaves behind a legacy of love and family. She is survived by her loving daughter, Jennifer Elaine Shirley, and her husband Marvin, as well as three cherished grandchildren: Stephanie Lee Gustafson and her husband Steven, Mark Daniel Nollan, and Shannon Boston and her husband John. Her memory will also be treasured by her five great-grandchildren: Skyler Gustafson and his wife Mackenzie, Garrett Gustafson, Jake Gustafson, Michael Nollan and his wife Samantha, and Circe Boston. Additionally, she leaves behind four great-great-grandchildren: Alaina Gustafson, Summer Nollan, Andrew Nollan, and Micha Nollan, as well as a bonus grand-daughter, Cynthia Nollan. Her nieces, Peggy Keith and her husband Felix, and Rita Gould and her husband Dick, hold precious memories of their beloved aunt.
Mickey's kindness and warmth touched the lives of many, and she leaves behind a close-knit University Village family and a vast network of friends and extended family who were enriched by her presence. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Rueben Lee Morrison, and three siblings: Lonnel Birdsong, Lester Birdsong, and Freeda Crow.
A memorial service to celebrate Mickey's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 15th at University Village in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Live Well Hospice as they took wonderful care of Mickey. In her passing, we mourn the loss of a remarkable woman whose love, grace, and talents will forever be etched in our hearts. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
