Eva Kathryn Poynter's Obituary
Eva Kathryn Poynter, age 100, passed away and entered Heaven's gates on March 20, 2025, in Catoosa, Oklahoma. She was born on April 26, 1924, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, to her father, James Monte "Pug" Pendergrass, and her mother, Mary Jane (Kralik) Pendergrass.
Eva was known for her class, intelligence, and meticulous nature. A proud graduate of Beggs High School, class of 1943, Eva was the fourth oldest of nine siblings. Eva's father served in the Army during World War I, and she spent her childhood on a farm in Beggs. After graduating from Beggs High School, she enjoyed a successful career as a manager for retail stores, including Woolfe Brothers, where she earned numerous service excellence awards before retiring in 1988. During World War II, Eva worked as a riveter at the Tulsa Bomber Plant, where she met and married the love of her life, William Harry Poynter, in September 1946. Their marriage spanned over 45 years until William's passing in 1991.
Eva's favorite songs were "America the Beautiful" and "How Great Thou Art." She loved fried or baked chicken, coleslaw, and mashed potatoes. An avid traveler, Eva visited eight U.S. states, though she always wished to see Austria and Germany. Her favorite color was green, and she cherished Christmas above all other holidays.
Eva had a generous heart, frequently donating to charities such as the Salvation Army, Shriners, and Goodwill of Tulsa. Her hobbies included reading, sewing, poetry, and maintaining her immaculate home. She always kept her home spotless, with not a speck of dust to be found. A successful poet, Eva published her poetry in 1995.
On April 26, 2024 in Catoosa, Oklahoma Eva was recognized and inducted by the Centenarians of Oklahoma's Hall of Fame, Eva celebrated her 100th birthday with them, a testament to her remarkable life. She was a beacon of light in many people's lives.
Eva’s encouraging words and wisdom that she leaves with us are: “Always save your money for a rainy day; live a clean life, no smoking or drinking; keep reading; and honesty is the best policy”
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband William Harry Poynter, her parents, and her 7 siblings.
Left to cherish Eva’s memories is her brother Scott Pendergrass; daughter Brenda Betts; grandchildren Dennis Gregory Goforth, Debby G. Brunk, and Denise K. Goforth; her great grandchildren Cheyenne Ryks and Jacob William Brunk; along with other family members and friends who will forever cherish the light that was Ms. Eva Kathryn Poynter.
A visitation to come and pay your respects to Eva will be held on Wednesday, March, 26, 2025 from 10AM – 12PM at Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. A celebration of her life will follow on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 3PM at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Brandon McCombs officiating. Eva will then be laid to rest with her beloved husband following the celebration of life service at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in the Garden of Devotion. Services are under the direction and ultimate care of Floral Haven Funeral Home.
