Evelyn O. Cowles' Obituary
Evelyn Olain Snodgrass Cowles passed from this life on Sept. 15, 2011 to be reunited with her husband, James Clayton (JC) Cowles. Evelyn was born September 3, 1920 in Lindsey, OK as the only child of Noble and Nellie (Ross) Snodgrass. She met JC through the Christian Church Disciples of Christ. They were united in marriage on January 5, 1941 in Sulphur, OK. She devoted her life to her family and her church. As a mother and grandmother she gave wisdom, love and gentle guidance to her three children and her grandchildren. As a self taught Biblical scholar she gave of her time and devotion to her churches. Central Christian Church in Springfield, MO and Community Christian Church in Tulsa, OK received her grace and wisdom over the last 35 years of her life. She is survived by her children, James Clayton Cowles, Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Low Gap, NC, Janelle Cowles of Lee's Summit, MO, and Jacquelyn Cowles Robertson and her husband, Jerry, of Republic, MO. Also mourning her death are nephew, Bradford Eugene Cowles of Topeka, KS and niece, Serena Ann Carroll of Fort Worth, TX and her grandchildren, James Lee Cowles, David Charles Cowles, Stacey Nicole Yocum, Tommy Eugene Deragowski, Curtis James Deragowski, Samuel Charles Fairall and Savannah Cowles Fairall. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Tylor Michael Wilkinson, Trevor Diane Cook, Destiney Nicole Deragowski, Mary Katelaine Cowles and James William Cowles and last, but not least, her loving 'pup,' Pattycake. Those of us who knew and loved Evelyn will pass the story of her life to the new generations. The family expresses deep gratitude to the Springfield Rehab and Health Care Center staff for their loving care of our mother over the last 6 years. Inurnment will take place at Floral Haven in Broken Arrow, OK on September 24, 2011. In lieu of flowers, the family requests acts of kindness toward others from those who celebrate Evelyn's life. Our hope is to keep alive the spirit of this woman who so graced the world with her life.
