Evelyn Penix's Obituary
Evelyn V. Poplin Penix, 86, of Broken Arrow died Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, in Coweta. She was born March 30, 1929, in Marion County, Arkansas, to Henry and Alscy Hollingsworth Poplin. She was a 1947 graduate of Union High School in Tulsa, where she was valedictorian, and was a member of the Grace Bible Church and later attended Broken Arrow First Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, painting, learning, the “Oleo,” and attending services and activities at her church. She was an employee of the Tulsa County Election Board. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, John Penix Jr., her parents, and four siblings, Janice Poplin Stephens, Bobie Lee Poplin, Barbara Jo Poplin Hendricks and Jack Poplin. Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte Lawless and husband Kenneth (Spike) of Richardson, Texas; a son, John Gary Penix and wife Joanne of Broken Arrow; four grandchildren, Tiffany McCollum and husband Scott of Cross Roads, Texas; Lance Lawless and wife Brandy of Arlington, Texas; John Sterling Penix and wife Janice of Clarksville, Arkansas; and Whitney Penix of Clarksville, Arkansas; five great-grandchildren, Connor and Preston McCollum of Frisco, Texas; and John Hayden, Landon and Brendan Penix of Clarksville, Arkansas; three sisters, Frances Reel and husband Jerry of Tulsa, Oleita Bowling of Broken Arrow and Beverly Nickens and husband Paul of Oklahoma City; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Louise Boyce, Carol Anderson, Rosetta Whitmire and Henry Penix and wife Elena, all of Tulsa; a special family friend, Dale Eiserman and family of Houston, Texas; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, February 14, 2016, at Floral Haven Funeral Home Visitation Room in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. A celebration of life service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, at Floral Haven Chapel in Broken Arrow, with the Rev. Henry Penix officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Haven Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Lance Lawless, Scott, Connor, and Preston McCollum, and John Sterling, John Hayden, Landon and Brendan Penix.
