Evelyn Ruth Schmidt
September 28, 1923 - February 24, 2026
Evelyn Ruth Schmidt, born September 28, 1923, in Claremore, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026, in Fremont, New Hampshire, at the remarkable age of 102. Her long life was a testament to devotion, service, and a heart full of music and love.
Evelyn will be remembered most for the passion she brought to everything she touched. A woman of deep commitment and generous spirit, she spent much of her adult life as an active and cherished member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as a Matron and shared her musical gifts by playing the piano for countless ceremonies and gatherings. Her dedication extended across three affiliated organizations, including The Order of the Amaranth and the White Shrine of Jerusalem, where she formed lifelong friendships and contributed to traditions that meant so much to her.
Faith was a guiding force in Evelyn’s life. As a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow, she lifted her voice in praise as part of the church choir, filling the sanctuary with the same warmth and sincerity that she brought to her daily life.
Evelyn’s legacy is one of love—love for her community, for her faith, for music, and for the people fortunate enough to know her. Her presence was a steady source of comfort and joy, and her memory will continue to inspire all who were touched by her kindness.
She leaves behind a lifetime of service, song, and heartfelt devotion. Though she will be deeply missed, the beauty of her spirit lives on in the many lives she enriched.
She is survived by her loving family, including her daughters Nancy Sell; and Kathleen Sherber, and her husband John Wham; grandchildren Benjamin Sherber, David H. Sell, Elizabeth J. Chase, Miriam K. Scott, Aaron G. Sell; and great Grandchildren Evan Sherber; Heath Sherber; Derek Leo; Baxter Chase; Oliver Chase; Anais Scott; Violett Scott; Jacob Sell; and Abigail Sell; along with a host of other family and friends that will forever remember and love her.
