Evelyn Trent Bachmann's Obituary
Evelyn Trent Bachmann, 95, longtime Tulsan, passed away quietly in her sleep on January 10, 2014, in Olathe Kansas, where she resided in an assisted living center for the past five years. She was born in Redfield, Iowa on November 14, 1918, the only daughter of Clarence and Grace Trent and sister to five brothers, B.W., Ted, Bob, Leonard and Gaylord. The family lived in Iowa, west Texas and West Plains, Missouri throughout the Depression years. Evelyn Bachmann married the love of her life, Theodore (Ted) Herman Bachmann on March 23, 1940. During World War II she served stateside in the Red Cross while he served as a Navy Sea Bee building runways across the Pacific. They spent most of their 47 years together in Tulsa. T.H. Bachmann worked for thirty-three years at Tulsa’s Sun Oil Refinery and made possible their daughter’s art education at the Kansas City Art Institute, their son’s music education at the University of Tulsa and Evelyn’s writing career. Evelyn Bachmann is survived by her two children, Donna Grace Bachmann, of Roeland Park, Kansas, artist and retired college art professor and Theodore (Ted) R. Bachmann, musician, conductor of the Tulsa Community Band and retired music educator; three grandchildren, Eric R. Dresser of Olathe, Kansas, T. Katherine Bachmann of Tulsa and Richard D. Bachmann of Houston, Texas; and three great-grandsons, Conner, Caleb and Tyler of Tulsa. She will be missed by her daughter-in-law, T. Susan Bachmann and her son-in-law, James D. Minges; step-granddaughter-in-law, Sara Minges of Lawrence, Kansas; and niece, Katherine Trent Huber of Englewood, Colorado and nephews Charles Trent of Hoopole, Illinois and William Barnett of Burkburnett, Texas. Evelyn Bachmann was a long time member of Tulsa’s legendary Tuesday Writers. In 1965 and 1968 she published two children’s novels with Viking Press, Tressa and Black-Eyed Susan. She was also a fine poet. A family graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 14th, at Floral Haven Funeral Home and Cemetery in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
