Ewell Elston Hamilton, Jr.'s Obituary
Ewell Elston Hamilton 89, of Tulsa died at his home Sunday July 15, 2018. He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on December 17, 1928 to parents Ewell Elston Hamilton and Leona Speaks Hamilton.The family moved to Tulsa in 1963 from Bridgeport, Texas where he worked in the oil field. Elston was employed in Tulsa by Speaks Sheet Metal that was a family business owned by his uncles Stanley and Jay Speaks. He later took over the business and ran it for over 40 years. Elston was an entertaining storyteller and often spent his afternoons with his buddies drinking coffee and swapping tales. Elston and Helen traveled regularly to their favorite vacation destination – Branson, Missouri. Elston loved to fish and enjoyed the outdoors. His second home was at the lake. He loved to share his “catches-of-the-day” with family by hosting countless “fish fries” in his backyard.Elston is survived by his three sons – Mike Hamilton, Kevin Hamilton and wife Sharon of Tulsa, Kent Hamilton and wife Marcelle of Plano, Texas; his sister Jeanine Hamilton Lindsey and her husband Maurice Lindsey of Springtown, Texas; his brother Allen Hamilton and his wife Suzanne Hamilton of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Kristen Hamilton, Kelsey Smith and husband Aaron Smith, Kayla Meachem and husband Joshua Meachem, Sr., Kendall Zimmer and husband Scott Zimmer – all of Tulsa; Ansley Grace Hamilton, Barrett Hamilton and Jackson Hamilton of Plano, Texas; eight great-grandchildren: Joshua Meachem, Jr., Kayden Meachem, Jordyn Meachem; Alexis Zimmer, Tyler Zimmer, Cason Zimmer; Kamryn Smith, Khloey Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.Elston’s wife of 65 years preceded him in death on July 10, 2018. A joint Celebration of Life Service for both Elston and Helen will be held on July 21, at 11:00 a.m., at New Life Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, OK. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the ministry of New Life Baptist Church where Elston and Helen were charter members.
