Florence Opal Miser's Obituary
Florence Opal Vaughn Miser passed away at 4:20 A.M. on January 3, 2009 at her home in Tulsa. She was 95 years old and is survived by one son, Jimmie L. Miser of Tulsa and his wife, Barbara, three daughters, Myrna Miser of the home, Sandra Griffith of N. Little Rock, Arkansas, and Marilyn Greiner and her husband Allen of Ellijay, Georgia. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Central Assembly of God Church of Tulsa from her youth. Opal, as she was known by all, was born in Dixon, Missouri to parents William Henry Harrison Vaughn and Hessie Gay Best Vaughn on November 22, 1913. She was predeceased by her husband, Jesse L. Miser of Tulsa. She lived in Tulsa most recently for 57 years. During World War II she worked in the Douglas Bomber Plant as a mechanic assembling the interiors of bomber airplanes. She retired from Keyes Building Services in 1984 after 24 years of service. Her hobbies included designing clothing and stitchery, as well as doll collecting. She remained mentally sharp handling many of her own affairs and was still able to walk until ten days before her death. Having survived typhoid fever, brain fever, and pneumonia jointly at the age of 11, she went on to survive cancer four times. Being a published poet, she was known to those who loved her as an accomplished songwriter as well. Arrangements were entrusted to Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Visitation was held on Sunday, January 04, 2009 from 2-4 P.M. Services were held, Monday, January 5, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the Floral Haven Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, or Operation Smile.
