Floyd Barnes' Obituary
Barnes, Floyd, 89, of Tulsa passed away Monday, November 8th, 2010. Floyd was born January 26, 1921 to Otto and Iva Jane Barnes in Tulsa, OK. Floyd retired as an expeditor for Public Service Company of Oklahoma in 1986. He was an active member of Will Rogers United Methodist Church for 55 years, the Masonic Lodge for 67 years and a Shriner for more than 50 years.Floyd enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1940 and served as First Sergeant at the Herington, Kansas Air Base during World War II. It was during this time that he met and married his beloved wife and friend, Marjorie. They were married on September 9th, 1944 at the Herington Air Base.Floyd was a very proud native Tulsan and loved to share his city and its progress with family and friends. He loved to fish, hunt and travel with family and other retiree friends. He was active in the PSO retirement group and served as president. He and his favorite partner, Marjorie were an energetic square dancing couple with the Circuit Riders Club, Buckeroos and other Tulsa square dance clubs for more than 50 years.His parents and two brothers and his wife of 65 years preceded Floyd in death. His son Walter Barnes and daughter Jane Barnes of Tulsa survive him. He was also very proud of his grandson, Zach Barnes of Tulsa. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Emerson Elementary School. The service will be held at Will Rogers Methodist Church, 13th and Yale at 11am on Friday, November 12th.
