Jerry Thompson's Obituary
Floyd Jerry Thompson
1941-2025
Jerry Thompson, husband, dad, grandad, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025, at the age of 83.
Jerry was born to Floyd and Lorraine Thompson on August 30, 1941 in Denver, Colorado, the oldest of four children. He grew up in Coldwater, Kansas, graduating from Coldwater High School in 1959. After high school, Jerry completed his associates degree in business. He joined the Kansas Air National Guard where he served for five years, including a year’s deployment to Korea.
In 1966, Jerry met Janet Sager, of McPherson, Kansas. Janet and Jerry fell in love and were married in 1968. They began their married life in Wichita, KS and soon moved to Tulsa, OK. Within a few years, they settled in Broken Arrow where they established an amazing home in which to raise their four children: Kimberly, Ryan, Matthew, and Tammy.
Jerry was well respected in the car business, which started for him at an early age, driving cars from auction to dealership for his dad. With a natural talent for buying and selling, he excelled as a salesman, manager and buyer throughout his extensive career. For over five decades, Jerry generously shared his expertise and guidance, serving as a valuable mentor to numerous colleagues.
Jerry found the greatest pride in his family. The accomplishments and successes of his children meant the world to him. And being present and involved with his grandchildren provided a source of joy and happiness. His devoted care to his wife during her struggle with Alzheimer’s displayed his enduring love and commitment to her. And in turn, his family remained by his side after her death, providing a constant source of love, care and support.
Perhaps the most fulfilling stage of Jerry’s life was becoming a grandad, a role that brought out his tender and caring nature. When they were babies, he gladly helped with feeding, story telling and naps. As his grandchildren grew, he modeled valuable life lessons about caring for animals, the joy of gardening and harvesting, the fun of fishing, and the appreciation of nature - always, stopping to smell the flowers. During their school years, he encouraged hard work, commitment and dedication to activities and teams, and the pursuit of their dreams. And he was fortunate to watch them grow into remarkable young adults, confident that his family’s legacy will continue.
Jerry was preceded in death by Janet Thompson, his wife of 54 years; his parents, Floyd and Lorraine Thompson and sister Ilene Hazen. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Kimberly Kerr and husband James; son Ryan Thompson and wife Angie; son Matthew Thompson and wife Brooke; daughter Tammy Brewer; ten grandchildren, Jake and wife Alex, Abby and husband Tyler, and Kate; Cameron and Bailey; Madison, Taylor and Wyatt; Aaron and wife Arina, and Eli; two great grandchildren, Heidi and Opal; sister Nancy Roop and brother Steve Thompson.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jerry’s name to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (www.themmrf.org) or the American Cancer Society (www.donate.cancer.org). Services will be held on May 28th at 12:30 at Floral Haven in Broken Arrow.
