Forrest Carl Smittle's Obituary
Having a caring heart and outgoing personality, Forrest always found time to make strangers into friends. He would share a joke and a laugh to anyone who had a moment. Forrest, born to Ariel and Lillian Smittle in 1936, was an Oklahoman his entire life. He was fascinated by Oklahoma and Tulsa History, especially history related to Central High School. He was a proud member of the class of 1955 and regularly met with his classmates until the end. Ever since he was a young boy, Forrest loved God and has been an active member of the Church of Christ. Having a passion for learning, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Abilene Christian College in 1959 and two Masters later on. Forrest proudly served in the Navy for 2 years. Most every time he saw a potato after his service, he’d break into stories about the hundreds of potatoes he peeled by hand in the Navy. Forrest met his lovely bride, Sharon, in 1962. He immediately swept her off her feet and they were joyously married for 51 years. They had two children, Carl and Kelli. Forrest was very proud of their character and accomplishments, especially their children; Ashleigh, Avonlea, Kelsey and Sterling. Forrest adored his grandkids and loved making them laugh. He would entertain them for hours with silly animal noises and songs. He also leaves behind his sister, Nancy Payne, and brother and sister in law, Duke and Jan Allen, and four nephews and nieces. Being a family man and supporting his household held a sense of pride, Forrest had many different jobs in his career which ranged from teaching to selling insurance. Forrest loved spending his time enjoying nature with his family, whether it be fishing, camping or hunting. Forrest left a legacy of his love of God, people, and nature with his kids and his grandkids. He will be remembered with smiles and laughter by those who knew him. Services will be held Thursday, March 19th, 10:00 am at Floral Haven Funeral Home 6500 S 129th E Ave, Broken Arrow.
