Francis Robert Mazikowski's Obituary
Francis Robert Mazikowski, fondly known to family and friends as “Frank,” “Ski,” and “PaPa,” passed in peace, with his family by his side, on February 16, 2018 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 93 years. He was born September 26, 1924 in Buffalo, NY to the late Frank and Mae Mazikowski.Senior Master Sergeant Frank Mazikowsi was inducted into the Army Air Corps in 1942 and served our country for over 20 years. He flew 62 bombing missions in WWII as a ball turret aerial gunner and was awarded the Purple Heart among other distinguished medals. He also served in Korea and later as a Russian linguist interpreter for the US Air Force Intelligence. Of special importance, he was a Russian translator in the history making spy exchange depicted in the movie, “Bridge of Spies.”After an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force in 1966, he worked as a mail carrier in Merced, CA where he resided for 50 years before moving closer to family in Tulsa, OK in 2016.Frank loved fishing, gardening, playing catch with his dogs, picnics at the lake, and strawberry ice cream. His favorite hobbies were tinkering with the stock market and playing spider solitaire on the computer. Most of all, he loved his grandchildren. They were the light of his world.He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Floyd, Richard, and Alice; his beloved wife, Terrie Lorraine; and cherished daughter, Alicia Mazikowski.Frank is survived by his daughter, Margaret Jayne Brundage; daughter, Michelle Owens and her husband Ted; son, Michael Mazikowski and his wife Susan; grandson, Jonathan Brundage; grandson, Michael Brundage; grandson, Aaron Mazikowski and his wife Jahnae; grandson, Brandon Mazikowski and his wife Loliette; grandson, Teddy Owens and his wife Ashley; granddaughter, Taylor Ampleford and her husband Daniel; great grandsons, Layton and Nash Owens, and Aaron Mazikowski; great granddaughters, Zieglinde Zappel-Silva and Isla Mazikowski; and numerous loving caregivers, friends, and family including his treasured nephew, George Canfield and beloved friend and caregiver, Marie Wixon.There will be a celebration of life held at 2 pm on Sunday, February 25th, 2018 at the home of Ted and Michelle Owens, 4210 E. 84th St, Tulsa, OK. Future interment of ashes will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
