Francis David Swift's Obituary
Francis David Swift, age 86, of Jenks, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025. He was born on August 7, 1938, in Bloomfield, Iowa, to Russell and Effie Lavelle Swift.
Dave proudly served in the United States Air Force for 22 years, retiring as a Tech Sergeant in 1976. He enlisted at the young age of 17, dedicating his life to service and country.
He met the love of his life, Jewell, at church camp. Together, they built a life centered on love, laughter, and legacy. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 67 years, Jewell Swift, and his sons David Swift and wife Julie, and Doug Swift and wife Diane. His cherished legacy extends to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy:
· Garrett Flynn & wife Chelsey, and their children Paxtyn and Dillan
· Ashlee Hendrickson & husband Daniel, and their children Huxley, Hazel, and Hattie
· Whitney Grieshaber & husband Joel, and their children Henley and Brodey
· Taylor Born & husband Chris, and their children Brantley, Braelynn, and Brycen
· Haley Torkleson & husband Kyle, and their children Jude and Charlie
· Jeremy Swift & fiancée Jess, and their child Avery
Dave was part of a large and loving family – some are living and some waiting for his arrival - siblings Bonnie Kerby (Bud), LaNita Burbeck, Beth Strong, Dan Swift (Chris), Sue Gingrich (Ryan), Lon Swift (Jan), Kevin Swift (Rinna), and Sheree Mullen (Warren).
He was a man of faith, coming from a long line of believers, and his faith was a guiding force throughout his life. That same sense of purpose and calling extended to his military service, which was not just a career, but a deeply personal and emotional commitment. Serving his country was one of the greatest honors of his life, an extension of his values, his discipline, and his belief in something greater than himself. The uniform he wore for 22 years represented more than duty; it was an expression of his love for others and his willingness to protect and sacrifice.
Dave loved the little things that made a big life. Sawdust on his hands from woodworking projects, early mornings at the lake, family time around the campfire. In his later years, he found deep fulfillment working alongside his son in the lawn care business, a time of shared purpose and connection that meant the world to him. There were countless hours at ballparks that started with coaching and cheering on his sons and ended with carrying that devotion through to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His presence - steady, encouraging, and full of heart - was the kind of legacy that will continue on for generations. His dog, Cooper, was his sidekick and shadow in recent years, bringing him laughter and companionship.
Above all, Dave lived for his faith and family. His was a life lived through a quiet strength, with fierce love, and deep gratitude.
