Fred Lee McElroy's Obituary
Fred Lee McElroy, 80, of Wagoner, passed away February 21, 2023, at home surrounded by his family. He was born March 22, 1942 in St Joe Arkansas to Horace and Irene McElroy. Fred was one of fourteen siblings. He was no stranger to hard work, as he began working with his father at a very young age to help support the family. Fred’s passion for golf began as a young boy working as a golf caddy at Meadow Brook Country Club. In 1960, Fred married the love of his life and long-time childhood friend Virginia Ree. They went on to build a beautiful life and shared six children. He was a good provider for his family as a roofer for 45 years until he retired. Fred devoted many years to coaching youth soccer and played in a men’s league. He had a great sense of humor and was loved by all. Fred enjoyed playing golf when he wasn’t boating or fishing Ft. Gibson Lake. He was always up for a good competition. Over the years Fred spent a lot of time with his seventeen grandchildren and even had a unique nickname for every one of them. He overcame many obstacles after retirement such as strokes and lung cancer, but that never stopped him from living life to its fullest. Fred is preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, and 5 brothers. Fred is survived by his wife Virginia of almost 63 years; children Bonita (Raymond) Williams, Susan McElroy, Sherri (Ray) Pyles, Mark McElroy, Shelly McElroy, Brian (Tammy) McElroy; 17 grandchildren Bridget, Brent, Brad, Candace, Christa, Brittany, Jana, Dylan, Raymond, Kyle, Hunter, Briana, Ciera, Bryton, Jessi, Aryan, Cason; 23 great grandchildren; 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Services will be held at Floral Haven Cemetery on Monday, February 27, 2023, at 10am. There will be a viewing Sunday, February 26, 2023 from 3 to 5pm.
