Frederick Reid's Obituary
Frederick William Reid, 79, was born December 3, 1939 in Tulsa to William Zachariah Reid and Viola Marie (Kruger) Reid, and was the oldest of their five children. The family soon moved to Jenks, and in 1958 he graduated from Jenks High School, where he played varsity football and baseball. After high school, Fred served in the Army Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1964, having attained the rank of Sergeant. In 1966 he went to work for Ford Distributing Company, the distributor of Coors beer in Tulsa, and remained with the distributor for over 40 years as it changed hands several times, finally retiring from LDF Sales and Distributing. He remained a loyal “Coors man” and Jenks Trojans fan until his death.Fred enjoyed square dancing, and could often be found not only on the dance floor but serving the club in setup and cleanup, as well as attending to the refreshment table. His main passion was soccer, and over a span of over 30 years he served thousands of area youths as a coach, referee, and nearly every board position in the Northeast Tulsa Soccer Club.Fred passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease, which cruelly took away both of his main pastimes, relegating him to the role of spectator, which he literally clung to until his final day. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Viola Reid, his brother Doug Reid, and his very best friend Guy “Bud” Guinn. He is survived by his sons, Ronald David (wife Jennifer, stepson Jesse), Richard Allyn Reid, Frederick Charles Reid (Sherrie); his sisters Judy Fine (Melvin), Gail Pierce (Wendell), brother George Reid (Janice), Doug’s widow Glenda Reid; uncle Keith Reid; many nieces, nephews, friends and hundreds of former players that viewed him as a father figureVisitation will be held at Floral Haven Funeral Home on Sunday, June 16 from 3pm – 7pm.Services will be at 12:30 pm on Monday, June 17 at the Floral Haven Chapel.
