Gary Lee Haag's Obituary
Gary Lee Haag, 83, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away on January 15, 2025. He was born on August 25, 1941, in Houston, Texas. Gary lived a life marked by service, love, and a passion for the simple joys of life.
Gary was in the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War. His time in the Marines shaped much of his life, and he always held a deep sense of pride in his service, later receiving an honorable discharge. Following his military career, Gary pursued a successful career as an engineer, a field that allowed him to apply his sharp mind and dedication to solving problems.
Gary met the love of his life, Paula Miller, and later the two married and created a loving legacy. Together, they shared over 50 years of love, laughter, and companionship. From their union, they welcomed a son, Darrin, who brought immense joy and pride to both Gary and Paula. Gary was an engaged father who loved coaching Darrin’s sports teams, and his passion for coaching extended well beyond Darrin’s childhood, continuing with other young athletes in the community.
Gary’s sense of humor was as unique as it was dry, and he had an ability to make others laugh and smile even in the most unexpected moments. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors, where he could often be found fishing, participating in bass tournaments, or enjoying a round of golf. His love of nature also extended to photography, where he found joy in capturing the beauty of the world around him. He also enjoyed driving race cars and loved being involved in racing as a whole. Gary was artistic as well and has left his family with meaningful memorabilia.
Gary was extremely strong willed. Almost nothing could bring him down. For example, Gary was diagnosed with cancer on three separate occasions and on all those occasions was able to beat the diagnosis and begin recovery. He was strong physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents Paul F. Haag and Gwendolen (Dunn) Daves; stepfather Jesse Daves who was also accredited with most of Gary’s upbringing; and sister Mary Meyer. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Paula Haag; son Darrin Haag; and grandchildren Braden and Darrian Haag. Gary was a light in many lives and will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue on in all who knew him.
Visitation to come and pay respects to Gary will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 from 1PM till 7PM at Floral Haven Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at 2PM at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens.
