Gary Mack Kennedy's Obituary
Gary Mack Kennedy was born to Darvin & Eunice Kennedy on May 24th, 1947 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. On October 13th, 2022 Gary’s faith became his sight as he met his Savior face to face following many health conditions.
Gary was born & raised in Tulsa Oklahoma. He graduated from Will Rogers High School & then joined the Air Force. On June 22, 1967, he married the love of his life, Theresa- together they had two children: Shelly (1968) & Gregory (1973). In 1975 they moved to McAlester, Oklahoma where they joined the Main & Oklahoma Church of Christ- and quickly planted their roots.
Gary went to work for WFEC in October of 1972 as a substation technician. He worked at WFEC for the next forty years. He ended his career as a Power Line Supervisor. He worked hard for his family- & was always proud of his work & his crew. He loved the outdoors and worked on many outages over the years. It is fitting that he worked to restore the lights for families- as he shared the true light- of Jesus Christ with anyone who was blessed to meet him.
Gary loved his family fiercely. He cared for Theresa in her last days with grace & love that left lasting impressions on his kids & grandkids. He was blessed with five grandkids & seven great-grandchildren. Each of his grandbabies will tell you they were his favorite as he had a way of making each one feel so special. His great-grandbabies have special memories of the man who would take them swimming & out for ice cream anytime they asked.
Throughout his life, Gary served in many different roles. He was a Bible class teacher, deacon, & an elder. During retirement, he served as a volunteer at the hospital & a reading mentor for low-income kids. He drove the church bus to bring kids to church- and he took meals to the “old people.” Gary could always be found quietly, kindly, & humbly sharing the love & grace of Christ in all that he did.
In 2018 he met Sue at The Park Church. He started giving her a ride to church on Wednesday evenings. They became good friends- and later married. Gary enjoyed her companionship in the final years of his life.
Gary is survived by his wife Sue May Kennedy; Shelly Kennedy-Gonzalez (daughter) & husband Daniel Gonzalez; Greg Kennedy (son) & Lisa; Kayla Bilby-West (granddaughter) & husband Curtis; Brent Bilby (grandson) & wife Roxanne; Madison Kennedy (granddaughter); Brock Kennedy and wife Brittany (grandson); Mattix; Brylee; Ember; Brooklyn; Kyler; & Enslee (great grand babies); and many sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces; nephews; cousins; & many many friends.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents Darvin & Eunice Kennedy; his sister Shrylene Fidler; his wife Theresa Kennedy; his grandson Devin Kennedy; & his Great Grandson Braxton West.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Braxton’s Hope Foundation.
