Slater, Gary Lynn's Obituary
Gary Lynn Slater, 84, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away on April 23, 2026. Born on August 6, 1941, in Englewood, California, he was the son of Willard Coyner Slater and Watha Keifer Slater Harding.
A proud and dedicated career military man, Gary served his country for more than 30 years—first in the United States Navy from June 5, 1959 to August 33, 1962 and then in the United States Air Force from March 13, 1972 to October 31, 1997. His commitment to service was a defining part of his life, and he carried that sense of duty, discipline, and honor into everything he did.
On June 30, 2016, Gary married the love of his life, Gail Lynn Leatherman, in Tulsa. Together they built a life filled with laughter, companionship, and deep devotion.
Gary was a man of many passions. He loved golf and found joy in traveling across Oklahoma, exploring small towns and uncovering their unique histories. He cherished time spent with his grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to be present in their lives. A talented woodworker, he crafted numerous pieces over the years, including a couple of beautiful tables that remain treasured reminders of his creativity. He also enjoyed gardening, creating some of the most beautiful flower beds and spending peaceful hours outdoors. He also enjoyed old trucks and even owned two of his own.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Gail; his three daughters, Beth Frederick and husband Ken, Amy Springman and husband Bart, and Penny Thomas and husband Matt; his stepdaughter, Tiffany Hagarty and husband Paul; his grandchildren Kaytee, Leslie, Kacey, Brandon, Jenna, Madeline, Charica, Cassia, Ni, and Paul; and his great‑grandchildren Brennon, Georgia, Blythe, Jude, Monte, Genesis and Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Richard Slater and Chuck Slater; and his granddaughter, Gillian‑Rose.
A memorial service with Military Honors will be held at 12:30 PM on Saturday, May 16, 2026, in the Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel, where family and friends will gather to celebrate a life well lived and a man deeply loved.
