Gaylon Ferguson's Obituary
Richard Gaylon Ferguson began his eternal life on Saturday, December 23rd, 2023. Gaylon was born on February 25th, 1938 in Monett, MO. He spent his early childhood in the small farming community of Purdy, MO, and later moved with his parents to Tulsa in 1951. He graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1956 and then proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps.
After completing his military service, Gaylon returned to Tulsa and began a successful career at CE Natco. He worked for over 30 years as the facilities manager for the 600 office employees at their Tulsa locations. He then worked for Beco Construction and later for NDC Health Information Systems. Upon retiring, he enjoyed working with his daughter and son-in-law on their farm in Verdigris, OK.
While working in Tulsa, Gaylon met Shirley Curtis, a beautiful, young girl from Stilwell, OK. They married in 1963 and began a journey that lasted 60 years. They were blessed with two daughters- Kelly and Wendy. The girls remember their father as being a great provider and reliable source of wisdom. He enjoyed supporting his two grandchildren, Ashley and Logan, by attending their livestock shows, ball games, and graduations. He was excited to now have two great-grandsons, Bowen and Callen, to start sharing his knowledge and fun “Grandad sayings”.
Gaylon enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid quail hunter. He raised and trained his dogs and took pleasure in watching them work in the field. Being a year-round fisherman was his favorite activity and he enjoyed many weekends with his stepfather and brother finding the best fishing spots. Gaylon was in awe of Mother Nature and encouraged everyone to admire the beauty of their surroundings each day.
Gaylon is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Itrice Foster, brother, Jay Ferguson, and son-in-law, Greg Tacker. He is survived by his wife Shirley of the home; daughter Kelly Ferguson of Tulsa, OK; daughter Wendy Tacker of Verdigris, OK; brother Terry Foster and wife Patty of Broken Arrow, OK; sister Janet Brown and husband Jerry of Catoosa, OK: sister-in-law Thea Ferguson of Newton, KS; sister-in-law Peggy Rains and husband Ken of Pryor, OK; brother-in-law Stephen Morton of Stilwell, OK; granddaughter Ashley Gaff and husband Dakota of Nash, OK; grandson Logan Tacker and wife Kalee of Tulsa, OK; two great-grandsons, Bowen and Callen, and a host of nieces and nephews.
