Gaylon Lyndell Poafpybitty's Obituary
Gaylon Lyndell Poafpybitty was born prematurely and then he was given his Kiowa name Shaunday, which means Little Bit/Little One, it was given to him by his late maternal grandparents James Asa Anquoe and Anna Keahbone Anquoe. Poafpybitty means running alongside of horse and mounting it. Shaunday was not just Kiowa but Comanche and Caddo as well. He began his journey of life in Lawton, OK December 24, 1961, and passed away peacefully at home on January 12, 2026. He is the son of Kenneth G Poafpybitty and Mary Ann Anquoe. He lived in Mountain View, OK in his younger years and moved to Tulsa where he spent most of his life. He attended Franklin Elementary, Wilson Jr High, Will Rogers and Booker T. Washington, all in Tulsa, OK. Later moved to Tahlequah where He attended Northeastern State University where he majored in psychology. Shaunday was an outstanding athlete where he excelled in basketball, football, baseball, track and won state competitions, He received numerous medals in track. M.V.P. in football, highest point record in basketball game, all during his athletic career. He grew up going to powwows and was a proud member of the Tulsa Powwow as his Anquoe family originated. Shaunday deeply loved all his family and was a proud member of The Kiowa Tribe. He was raised with strong Kiowa traditions which remained important to him all his life. He began dancing at the age of 5, He won contest in fancy dancing. He danced in Indian fair parade in Anadarko. He traveled throughout Oklahoma singing with his uncle Jack, uncle Ducky and the Grayhorse and Redstone drums/ He loved being around his uncles and cousins singing their hearts out. Shaunday’s gentle spirit, and boundless kindness left an unforgettable mark on everyone who knew him. Even in life’s heaviest moments, he had a rare gift for easing fear and sorrow with his warmth and quiet humor, He brought comfort, hope, and a sense of peace to those around him. He cared about all walks of life. He cared about people more than himself. He was known as a very friendly, laid-back person with a great sense of humor. Shaunday will always be remembered of his generous, kind, giving, lovable, selfless person. He never realized how much he meant to a lot of people. He loved all his family and friends very much. Our Heavenly Father has taken him to heaven so he can R.I.P. He will be Greatly Missed. Our Brother Never Forgotten!G
